 LEGO Star Wars: TIE Bomber Though the finished product is a fun toy–a spectacular Tie Fighter with many mobile parts, a missile that can really be fired, and a little black-suited pilot–it is almost more like a 3-D puzzle than a toy. For younger kids who don’t have the patience to wade through the directions, which though text-free are really quite detailed, the 229 pieces may end up in a big, hopeless muddle. But for kids with the ambition and focus, or for parents who want some together time with their kids, the task of putting the thing together is certainly doable, and the result is a fun and colorful slice of the Star Wars universe of your very own. –David Stoesz
Customer Review: Awesome Set
This set is truly awesome. It is my second favourite LEGO set next to AT-TE. The 229 pieces aren’t hard to put together, but deliver the fun none the less. This set has two basic actions; it can fire a missle if the black lever is pulled, and it can drop tiny lego bombs made from blue transparent LEGO pieces by pulling back the thing on the end of its pods.
Overall, this set is well worth the money, and lasts along time, I’ve had it for a month, not a piece has broken off, I even dropped it to the floor on a carpet, it survived. GET THIS SET. Reccomended for ages 7+.
Customer Review: Great design and way cool!
The TIE Bomber is one of the best Star Wars Lego sets I’ve ever seen! Lego did a fantastic job in recreating this fearsome ship of the Empire. This set is great fun to play with and has many intricate details. This ship has two compartments that are side-by-side: the cockpit and a compartment which launches a missile.
The cockpit is roomy and plus, directly behind it, there is a little compartment where you can drop “bombs” which are small blue Lego pieces. The cockpit and missile launcher compartment are connected by a small bridge. The set even has an awesome TIE Pilot minifig!
Overall the TIE Bomber is an excellent addition to your Star Wars collection. It’s an absolute must-have. Get it while you can, Star Wars fans! May the Force be with you!

Customer Review: This is a big, beautiful model!
Whew! I built the Lego Hailfire Droid last night, and it is a monster. It has almost 700 pieces, and it took me over four hours to build. Definitely a good buy for anyone who likes the construction aspects of Lego. The model has a variety of interestingly-shaped pieces–I had to resist the temptation to cannibalize it for other creations before I was finished! You may not agree with the five-star education rating unless you’re a gearhead. It is by far the most intricate set I’ve come across. Even in larger sets with more pieces I’ve never seen such a mind-bendingly complex design. The instructions are easy to follow (as usual)–it’s the surprising ways in which the subunits combine that make this such a joy to build. Make sure you have plenty of table space!
I call this a ‘model’ and not a ‘toy’ for a couple of reasons. The first is the complexity of the design. Almost all of the pieces are normal or modified Technic pieces–lots of girders and snap tubes, very few flat bricks. The Hailfire Droid verges on the complexity of the Ultimate Model kits.
I also call it a model because, once built, you may not actually play with it much. Not that it doesn’t have play value–it actually rolls on those huge wheels, which is VERY cool, and there is a big spring-action laser cannon that pops out from below the fuselage. The problem is that there is no good place to grab the thing! That might be a plus rather than a minus if you are looking for a model rather than a toy–the entire surface is crammed with cool machinery and loads of detail, but that does make it difficult to hold securely. Also, the completed vehicle is not fragile, but it is . . . rickety. Iit will NOT fall apart, unless you drop it or maybe hurl it across the room–in fact, I was pleasantly surprised at how securely the different subunits bolted together. But it does creak and squeak and even flex a little bit, as you might expect from a big, skeletal Technic vehicle. Think of it as Lego’s B-52: huge, gorgeous, and sturdy–but more flexible than you might expect.
If you have a Mindstorms set, you might want to pick up a Hailfire Droid just to see if you can motorize it–my favorite Lego fantasy since I finished building mine! For everyone else, this set is still a great value: hours of fun construction, and a very big, very cool finished product.
